If you're looking for things to do near Oban, Argyll, our whale
and wildlife spotting boat trips are an ideal family day out and a
spectacular tourist attraction for all ages.
2 hour Corryvreckan Trip

Our two-hour Corryvreckan trip takes you past Ballachuan
Hazelwood, a Scottish Wildlife Trust Reserve. Our wildlife guide
will tell you all about the rare plants and animals that inhabit
this special West Coast habitat.
Normally our next stop is the slate islands of Belnahua and
Fladda. Here we see whirling colonies of terns and other seabirds,
and will tell you all about the slate quarrying history of the
'Islands that roofed the World'.
There have been some notable shipwrecks in these waters, and we
will tell you about the tales of heroism that accompany them.
We then travel down the Sound of Luing. This is a great place to
see wild deer on the ridge of the island. Your guide will tell you
all about the importance of the area for its unique marine life, and
we expect to see common seals basking on the rocks of small offshore
skerries.
We go through the Pass of the Grey Dogs, or the sheltered side of
Scarba. Either option presents a great chance to see Golden Eagles
soaring over the ridges in their search for a meal.
We shortly arrive at the Corryvreckan Whirlpool, fuelled by some
of the strongest tides in the country. Here your guide will explain
how this powerful vortex forms and enthral you with the legend of
the Viking prince who braved the whirlpool to win the hand of a
local girl.
The wildlife in the Gulf of Corryvreckan is often spectacular,
with many species of seabird and perhaps Minke whales, dolphins
and porpoise feeding in the eddies. In 2006 a pair of White-tailed
Sea Eagles established a territory in this area and sightings are
increasingly common.
Our return journey, via a different route, offers a great chance
to soak up the unique atmosphere of the Firth of Lorne, a Special
Area of Conservation and a great place for sightings of porpoise.
You will also learn about the local fish farming and fishing.
